Palm Beach County Mensa Calendar of Events

Mensa events are open to all Mensans, their spouses, children and guests. Who may or may not attend a private home is at the host's discretion. Hosts: Please mention any special concerns about your location, such as smoking restrictions, limited access for the handicapped, or presence of pets. Guests: If you have any special needs or restrictions, please check with your host before attending an event.

Notice! Our group has merged its calendar with the one from the Broward group and some events from Miami. The icon in the rightmost column of the event indicates what group(s) are hosting that activity (B for Broward, M for Miami, P for Palm Beach County). See the legends at the bottom of this page for an explanation of other icons that may appear in this column. Most phone numbers for Broward events will be area code 954, for Miami, 305.

	Friday-Monday, September 1-4. TUBE THE ITCHTUCKNEE RIVER, fed by one of Florida's natural springs, in the Ocala National Forest area. Labor Day Weekend, Friday night September 1st thru Monday afternoon September 4th. This is the last weekend the facility is open until next Memorial Day. The tube ride on the river is about 3 - 3 ˝ hours, and you can take tubes or rafts. You can also kayak the river with your own kayak. Cost from Saturday Sept. 2 thru Monday afternoon 9/4 (you can come up Friday night if you wish, same price) $35.00 per member, $40.00 non-member, kids under 15 ˝ price, under 2 N/C. Includes tent site and one night's OAK-supplied dinner. Sites include water and electricity. Excludes entry into Itchtucknee Park and renting of tube or raft. Reserve early - will sell out quickly. 	Saturday, September 2. MEL BROOKS MOVIE NIGHT at the home of Dan and Robin Rhea. 7:00 pm. Popcorn and soft drinks provided. Find out how much Mongo loves Sheriff Bart and why it's good to be the king. RSVP a must, since space will be limited. 954-575-1639.

	Saturday, September 9, 8:00 pm. POT-LUCK GATHERING in the home of Judy and Brian Johnson in Jupiter. Pot luck finger foods, bring your favorite hors d'oeuvre or desert to share. Sit, Eat, Drink, Solve world problems, Swim (pool), and Soak (Jacuzzi), just chat. Sodas chips and Pretzels provided. Door fee $2.00 per person, excess to Palm Beach Mensa Treasury. 	Sunday, September 10, 9:00 am. BEACH WALK on Hollywood Beach Broadwalk, starting from Johnson Street bandstand. About 5 miles total round-trip, then brunch at restaurant on the beach. The walk is rated as Easy, so virtually anyone can participate. Contact Ruby Allman, 954-961-7334.

	Sunday, September 17. HORSEBACK RIDE IN DAVIE from the Bar-B-Ranch, 3500 S.W. 121st Avenue. We ride for about 1 ˝ hours at a slow pace on protected horse trails including Tree Tops Park, and it's rated as Easy as a horseback ride. Everybody can do it including first-timers. The horses are well-trained, and the ranch matches the horse to the rider. Maximum weight 225 pounds (rider, not horse) so you know that the guides are serious and concerned about the horses. A really nice experience. Lunch afterward at a local restaurant. Cost, members, $50.00; non- members, add $5.00. Same price for kids, etc. Contact Jordan London, 954-961-8286.

	Sunday, September 24. KAYAK IN NORTH PALM BEACH with Adventure Times. This will be an easy kayak, and cost approximately $45.00 for members for single kayak. The exact details, including itinerary, are being worked out as this is written, but it will be interesting and you'll enjoy it- if you like kayaking. And who doesn't? (That's rhetorical...)
