Palm Beach County Mensa Calendar of Events

Mensa events are open to all Mensans, their spouses, children and guests. Who may or may not attend a private home is at the host's discretion. Hosts: Please mention any special concerns about your location, such as smoking restrictions, limited access for the handicapped, or presence of pets. Guests: If you have any special needs or restrictions, please check with your host before attending an event.

Notice! Our group has merged its calendar with the one from the Broward group and some events from Miami. The icon in the rightmost column of the event indicates what group(s) are hosting that activity (B for Broward, M for Miami, P for Palm Beach County). See the legends at the bottom of this page for an explanation of other icons that may appear in this column. Most phone numbers for Broward events will be area code 954, for Miami, 305.

	Saturday, February 4. Tour Bonnet House in eastern Fort Lauderdale on A1A. This is a fabulous estate and home, which has been made into a public facility. It is quite beautiful, and evocative of grandeur and grander days gone by. Cost TBD. Contact Jordan London, 954-961-8286.

	Saturday, February 11, 7:00 pm. Mensa/OAK Party. This will be a combination HALLOWEEN/ MARDI GRAS/ VALENTINE'S DAY COSTUME PARTY - All In One! Valentine's Day is around the corner, and this is the ideal Valentine occasion to present your loved one- or ones- or whomever- with something special. Come join the fun for an evening of people, conversation, debate, great food, some games, and a generally great time. Bring-A-dish and $3.00 per person contribution. 	Sunday, February 12. Kayak - either the Turner River or Half-Way Creek in southern Dade, on SR29 in Everglades City below US 41 (Tamiami Trail). About a four-hour paddle total. Quiet waters, easy paddling, and this time of year should be NO mosquitoes (are you listening, mosquitoes?). Cost $40.00 per person, add $5.00 non-member. Check required with reservation. 	Tuesday, February 14, 5:30 pm. ELECTRONIC TRIVIA NORTH meets, as always, at Rickey's, 4645 Hollywood Blvd. Exit I-95 at Hollywood Blvd. and go west to 48th Ave. Park in back. We meet at 5:30 p.m. since there are some good games early, but if you can't make it early, come when you can. Pretty good food, very good trivia. Smoking where permitted.

	Sunday, February 19, 11:30 am. SUNDAY BRUNCH -- Big Tomato in Coral Springs. 11:30 AM. We are meeting again for a scrumptious buffet of traditional and Italian treats, made to order omelets and Belgian waffles... all for $10.95. 	Saturday-Sunday, February 25-26. Backpack! To Hickory Hammock, a really lovely camp site north and west of Okeechobee City. About a 2 hour drive, we arrive 10:00 AM, hike in about 4 miles, set up camp, explore around, have a Klub- supplied dinner, and Sunday pack back out. If you like the outdoors, this is the epitome of the city-type backpacking experi- ence. We can lend you a backpack, mattress and tent if you would like to participate but don't have the equipment. 	Sunday, March 12. CANOE OR KAYAK THE TURNER RIVER - from Everglades City at the foot of State Road 29 off the Tamiami Trail. We leave from the Outfitter in Everglades City, a Bed and Breakfast (stay overnight Saturday if you wish) where we rent our boats. We will carpool for those who wish from Broward. Figure about 4 hours on the water. $15.00 for the Outfitter to cart your own boat, $30.00 Members $35.00 Non-Members for single kayak, $20.00 Members and $25.00 Non-Members per person for tandem kayak.
