Palm Beach County Mensa Calendar of Events
November, 2003

Mensa events are open to all Mensans, their spouses, children and guests. Who may or may not attend a private home is at the host's discretion. Hosts: Please mention any special concerns about your location, such as smoking restrictions, limited access for the handicapped, or presence of pets. Guests: If you have any special needs or restrictions, please check with your host before attending an event.

Notice! Our group has merged its calendar with the one from the Broward group and some events from Miami. The icon in the rightmost column of the event indicates what group(s) are hosting that activity (B for Broward, M for Miami, P for Palm Beach County). See the legends at the bottom of this page for an explanation of other icons that may appear in this column. Most phone numbers for Broward events will be area code 954, for Miami, 305.

	Saturday, November 1. CANOE AROUND the beautiful and friendly Island city of Wilton Manors. Start at 9:00 a.m. and paddle around the City, a total of 6 1/2 miles. Then have a picnic lunch at Colahatchee Park on 15th Avenue, across the street from where we take out our boats, included in the Outing.. A lovely little paddle along the Middle River and New River, very little if any boat traffic to bother us, and always very calm water. Cost $12.00 per person for Members, $15.00 per person for non-members, includes canoe, accessories, picnic lunch. Jordan London, 954- 961-8286.

	Thursday, November 6. DISCUSSION SIG at the home of Roy Fischler at 8:00 pm. Discuss politics, science, art, etc., in depth. Topics to be decided at each meeting. Snacks and drinks provided. RSVP to 954-578-8273. Pets, no smoking.

	Friday, November 7 - Sunday, November 9. MIAMI MENSA'S Mini-RG at Lime Tree Bay Resort. Rooms for $64 and up; mention Mensa for the 20% discount. Call them at 800-723-4519, 305-664-4740, or go to their web site at limetreebayresort.com to reserve a room. Registration fee $10 per person which covers danish, bagels and coffee, etc., Saturday and Sunday morning. We meet Friday night at 7 at the Little Italy restaurant just north of the motel for a wonderful Keys dinner. Saturday eve cookout...steaks, chicken, shrimp... $16 per person. 	Sunday, November 9. YOUNG MENSANS GAME DAY. 1:00 pm to ?. Russell, Holden & Mitchell Koplowitz invite you to an afternoon of Magic, Game Cube, Play Station, Nintendo, Yu-gi-oh, swimming pool, more (we have snow cone and popcorn machines!). You'll be asked to bring a drink or a snack when you RSVP to Sandy or Jo-Anne Koplowitz at 954-975-6361. (Don't panic, moms and dads! Adult conversation will be available in a separate room!)
	Tuesday, November 11. ELECTRONIC TRIVIA NORTH meets, as always, at Rickey's, 4645 Hollywood Blvd. Exit I-95 at Hollywood Blvd. and go west to 48th Ave. Park in back. We meet at 5:30 p.m. since there are some good games early, but if you can't make it early, come when you can. Pretty good food, very good trivia. Smoking where permitted.

	Saturday, November 15. OUTDOOR SIG invites you to bicycle through the Christmas Lights Display at Tradewinds Park on Sample Road. A one-hour bicycle ride that is beautiful and thrilling and just totally fun. Helmets required. Last year they were rented for $5.00 at the Park, but we can't be sure that will be repeated. 	Saturday, November 15. PRE-THANKSGIVING COVERED DISH DINNER at the Vitales'. Once again, Joe & Carol Lee Vitale will be preparing a care box for the St. Lawrence Homeless Support Center in the name of Broward Mensa. 	Thursday, November 27. OPEN HOUSE Thanksgiving Dinner at Ruby Allman and Jordan London's. We have made it a tradition to invite anyone who wants to join us and our friends at our house for a sit-down full-blown Thanksgiving Dinner. Jordan cooks the turkey - and is a good cook. 	Saturday, November 29. TURKEY LEFTOVERS COVERED DISH PARTY & CONTEST 8:00 pm at the home of Dan and Robin Rhea. Got a 'fridge full of leftovers? C'mon over and share 'em with your voracious Mensan fiends (…err…friends). How about a crock-pot of turkey chili? Turkey tetrazzini? Turkey fajitas? 	Saturday, December 20: WINTER SOLSTICE CELEBRATION, 7:00PM at Elissa Rudolph's apt. in Delray Beach. Solstice means "standing still sun" but that doesn't mean we need to stand still, although there may be standing room only. The day that marks the return of the sun has been cause for celebration for at least 4,000 years. Let's continue the tradition with food, drink, friends, and gifts. There will be a gift exchange-bring a $10.00, unisex, wrapped gift. Rules of the exchange are dependent on the stars.
