Palm Beach County Mensa Calendar of Events

Mensa events are open to all Mensans, their spouses, children and guests. Who may or may not attend a private home is at the host's discretion. Hosts: Please mention any special concerns about your location, such as smoking restrictions, limited access for the handicapped, or presence of pets. Guests: If you have any special needs or restrictions, please check with your host before attending an event.

Notice! Our group has merged its calendar with the one from the Broward group and some events from Miami. The icon in the rightmost column of the event indicates what group(s) are hosting that activity (B for Broward, M for Miami, P for Palm Beach County). See the legends at the bottom of this page for an explanation of other icons that may appear in this column. Most phone numbers for Broward events will be area code 954, for Miami, 305.

	Saturday, January 4th. SECRET WOODS HIKE 9:45 am. Join us for an easy naturalist-led hike over the catwalk trails of the Secret Woods Nature Center, 2701 W. St. Rd. 84, a 56-acre Broward County park comprising three ecosystems---low hammock, brackish wetland, and fresh-water wetland. The Nature Center is about 1/2 mile west of I-95 on the north side of S.R. 84. Meet at the office at 9:45 a.m. for 10 a.m. tour. Cost: $2.00/person. After the hike, consider joining for lunch on the water at the nearby Rustic Inn Crab House on Ravenswood Road. RSVP to Judy Ford, 954-961-6926.
	Sunday, January 5th. MENSA OUTDOOR SIG Day Hike along the National Florida Scenic Trail on Section 1, from I-75 south and back again. Could be a little wet. First time we're doing this one, so it'll be fun and exploratory. BYO lunch to have after the hike - there are picnic tables and vending machines at the place we start from and come back to. 	Thursday, January 16th. WRITING DISCUSSION GROUP meets at the Morningstar Clubhouse, Delray Beach, 7:30PM. The writing topic for the evening will be marketing yourself and your work. If anyone's thought about having their own Web site to publicize their writing, Laura Michaels will be happy to answer any questions on Web site set up and design. There's also a great book on guerrilla marketing that covers inexpensive but effective ways to get your works publicized and your name known. HISTORIC HOLLYWOOD WALKING TOUR 10:00 am-noon: Learn about the historic community boom-era developer Joseph Young converted from a square mile of mangrove swamp into a city of 18,000 in four years. Sunday, March 9th. BOOK SIGNING 4PM at the Morningstar Clubhouse. Barbara Parker signs her latest mystery. In March Prudy Taylor Board, author of The Vow, Blood Legacy, and many other works of fiction and nonfiction will discuss how to get your writing noticed and how to find your niche.
