Palm Beach County Mensa Calendar of Events - January, 2002
Mensa
events are open to all Mensans, their spouses, children and guests. Who
may or may not attend a private home is at the host's discussion.
Hosts: Please mention any special concerns about your location, such as
smoking restrictions, limited access for the handicapped, or presence
of pets. Guests: If you have any special needs or restrictions, please
check with your host before attending an event.
Notice!
Our group has merged its calendar with the one from the Broward group
and some events from Miami. The icon in the rightmost column of the
event indicates what group(s) are hosting that activity (B for Broward,
M for Miami, P for Palm Beach County). See the legends at the bottom of
this page for an explanation of other icons that may appear in this
column. Most phone numbers for Broward events will be area code 954,
for Miami, 305.

January 12th. AN EASY HIKE IN TREE TOPS PARK in Davie, 10:00 am at Nob
Hill Road between Griffin Road & I-595. Keith Morton, experienced
plant-type guy, leads an expedition in the park to discover what's good
to eat, not good to eat, and "don't even touch" of the Florida flora.
Bring a picnic lunch to have in the park after the walk. Ruby at

of Jordan London & Ruby Allman. Bring a covered dish to share and 2
stories from at least 20 years ago to regale your raptor
listeners-they'll eat it up. The funnier or more embarrassing the tale,

January 13th. NORTON MUSEUM EXHIBIT, "A Natural Subject: Photographs
from the Permanent Collection," is a showcase of the Museum's mostly
black & white photos, some created by famous photogs, Margaret
Bourke-White, Edward Steichen, Robert Mapplethorpe. We'll meet at 1:30
pm in the Museum lobby, West Palm Beach, for a group tour of this
exhibit then a general tour of the rest of the Norton. Another exhibit,
"Treasures from the Smithsonian Armerican Art Museum" highlights
American Impressionism with works by Cassatt, Whistler, Hassam, Dewing.
Group decides on a gathering place later to rehash the experience.

January 18th. MENSA-ADVENTURE IN DINING, 7:30 pm at Henry's, Delray
Beach (16850 Jog Rd., 561-638-1949), voted one of the 100 best
restaurants in south Florida by Sun-Sentinel critics. "Classic American
cooking at its best: simple roast chicken, meatloaf, apple tarts &
3-layer chocolate cloud cake." Who needs an entree? Let's have dessert!

January 26th. BICYCLE SHARK VALLEY under the (almost) full moon. This
is a wonderful 15-mile bicycle ride on a paved trail in a U-shaped
park. Various birds, animals, even alligators abound. At the eight-mile
mark, the park has a 40-foot high observation tower looking out into
the Everglades. We will join with friends from OAK. Call Ruby Allman at
